Craig Epps Clinches Democratic Mayoral Nomination in Hillside, NJ

HILLSIDE, NJ — In a major development for local politics, longtime community leader and Council President Craig Epps has officially secured the Democratic nomination for mayor of Hillside, New Jersey. His campaign, built on a platform of unity, public safety, and transparency, now moves forward with strong momentum into the general election.

On July 10, 2025, the Hillside Democratic County Committee voted 16–8 in favor of Epps over Councilwoman Andrea Hyatt. The endorsement solidifies Epps as the party’s standard-bearer in the upcoming race and reflects growing support for his leadership vision.

A retired East Orange police officer and dedicated public servant, Epps expressed deep gratitude for the committee’s backing. “This isn’t just a personal win—it’s a win for Hillside,” he said. “I’m committed to leading with integrity and delivering real results for our community.”

Mayor Dahlia Vertreese has announced plans to seek a third term, setting the stage for a competitive general election in November.
